At 15. October a new star is born. The third version of the tablet user experience Plasma Active from the KDE project was born (official announcement: dot.kde.org).

We are enjoying this step forward. The new release gives three new apps to users hand: Files, Books and Addons.

Files is called as ressource browser which uses Strigi and Nepomuk for searching and working with files. With that new app you can store metadata to each file. Also users can use all tags what they like, to find the file again later. But it isn't needed to know where the file is located on the hard disc exactly.

The Books-App is a viewer for electronic books, and it can read PDF, EPub, Open Document and some more. Like the Files-App the Books-App can used touchfriendly and without any menu-bars (like on desktop).

Addons is a interesting feature of that new version. After payless registering into the PlayMakeLive Network you can browse and download thousands of Ebooks. Also you can get new wallpapers for your device.

Kontact-Touch is a well known app from earlier versions of Plasma Active. It is a touchfriendly version from the KDEPIM Suite and optimized for tablets. Calligra Active is also a well known app which can view many file formats. All file formats which are provided by Calligra-Desktop also supported by Calligra Active.

To help new users exploring the new user experience we have started some month ago to create some documentation from Plasma Active.

You can find our Knowledgebase for Plasma Active there.

Also we want to invite you to our Forum, where you can exchange with other Plasma Active Users. Please visit us there.

A EBook Version from our Documentation you can find there:

Enjoy your new user experience.
