openSUSE estará presente en el FLISOL de El Salvador gracias al trabajo desinteresado de embajadores y voluntarios. Conoce un poco más su labor, de la mano de sus protagonistas.

Como ya comenté en un artículo anterior, desde hace ya unos cuantos años, cada 4º Sábado de Abril se celebra en toda Latinoamérica el FLISOL, este año se celebrará el 27 de Abril. En estos encuentros se promueve de manera activa el software libre.

Y gracias a la labor de los embajadores de openSUSE en los distintos países, este estará presente en las distintas sedes de los distintos países donde se celebra. Gracias a ellos se hablará sobre este sistema operativo de GNU/Linux e incluso te lo podrán instalar en tu PC! y se difundirá el proyecto.

Ya hemos hablado con Itxshell desde Honduras, o Konelix de Guatemala veremos hoy que pasará en El Salvador con las palabras de Cheperobert.

Estaba interesado por conocer de mano de los protagonistas cómo lo preparan, celebran y se desarrolla el FLISOL en sus respectivas sedes. Así que me puse en contacto con ellos y les hice una pequeña entrevista, gracias a aquellos que respondieron y amablemente accedieron a contestarla. Mi agradecimiento por ello!

Así que en estos días publicaré unas cuantas entrevistas, sobre FLISOL y openSUSE. Si tú también promueves openSUSE en FLISOL ponte en contacto conmigo y te mandaré la entrevista para que puedas participar y dar a conocer vuestro trabajo a la comunidad. ¿Desde cuando lleváis organizando FLISOL en vuestra ciudad?
El primer evento donde participé activamente fue en el año 2007 y se realizó en la Universidad donde estudiaba.

Este primer evento significó mucho, ya que fue una puerta para muchos usuarios de meterse en el mundo del Software libre, así mismo muchos se interesaron en colaborar en la organización de futuros eventos.

¿Cuantas personas trabajáis para organizarlo y con qué medios contáis?
El número de personas ha variado mucho, en ciertas ocasiones hemos logrado crear comisiones de trabajo y en otras nos ha tocado a algunos pocos organizar todo. Muchas veces cuesta organizar, por las cuestiones personales de cada quien, sin embargo siempre hemos salido adelante.

Generalmente las comisiones se han hecho de 3 personas para cada actividad, estas pueden ser.

- Comisión de publicidad
- Comisión de logística en la sede del evento
- Comisión de materiales (DVD’s, CD, Camisas, gorras, llaveros, etc)

Como mencionaba en ocasiones a 4 ó 5 personas nos toca hacer todo el trabajo.

Los medios con lo que contamos, principalmente, a través de una lista de usuarios ( en nuestra comunidad, tenemos nuestra lista)
En ocasiones hemos publicado en una wiki, los avances del trabajo. En lo que se refiere a publicidad, los compañeros en sus blog’s, comunidades amigas publican información del evento.

En la sede donde se realizará el evento, las autoridades de dicha localidad, nos ayudan a informar del evento y solicitar los permisos adecuados, para que este se realice en la fecha estipulada. Estas organizaciones conllevan a envió de muchos correos de discusión y reuniones presenciales.

¿En qué consiste una jornada del evento? ¿Qué actividades realizáis?
Los horarios y cosas importantes ya están establecidos en la organización, por lo que el evento se trata de desarrollar acorde a este. La jornada del evento generalmente se da todo el día en el que se realizará el evento, el cual inicia con la apertura del evento, entre los organizadores y autoridades de la sede.

Posteriormente de una forma no tan formal se llevan discusiones a través de charlas de (Software Libre) SL y talleres, finalizando en el cierre, con promociones y regalo de software, entre otras cosas. Las actividades principales son:

• Charlas o ponencias de personas voluntarias, con temas específicos propuestos por ellos mismos. (todo tiene que ser sobre SL)
• Talleres de instalación de software
• Competiciones entre los participantes, a través de juegos en red.
• Discusiones entre asistentes
• Quemado de DVD’s y CD y repartición de SL
• Almuerzo, venta de camisas, sticker, etc.

¿Que tenéis organizado para este año? ¿Alguna sorpresa?
Para este FLISOL 2013, será desarrollado en una de las universidades principales del país, donde no estamos organizando nosotros, ya que una comunidad de SL de dicha universidad, se ha encargado de todo. Como comunidad openSUSE de El Salvador, estaremos ubicados en un stand, promocionando la distribución, dando las ventajas, regalando Software, entre otras cosas. Varios miembros de la comunidad openSUSE, se han anotado con charlas, por lo que estaremos presentes en las ponencias.

Sorpresas, creo que pocas, mas que todo que en esta ocasiona contaremos con banners de openSUSE proporcionados por el proyecto, que nos permitirá adornar bien nuestro stand. El evento de este año es más grande, que en otras ocasiones, ya que por primera vez estaremos todas las comunidades del país reunidas en un evento (Comunidad de Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, etc)

¿Que tal el recibimiento por parte de los usuarios? ¿Notáis que hay un interés creciente en los últimos años?
El recibimiento de los usuarios es de lo mejor, un gran interés por aprender y conocer aquello nuevo que les estamos dando a conocer, con muchas dudas, muchas comparaciones, entre como lo hacen ahora con su sistema y como lo harán con el nuevo.

Muy contentos porque en ningún lugar les regalan un DVD’ o CD con un sistema operativo, se emocionan y agradecen muchos, el apoyo y ayuda en solucionar sus problemas.

El interés que han tenido es mucho, algunos profundizan en apoyar directamente y de usuarios normales se convierten en promotores y divulgadores del SL, otros se benefician y contribuyen estando ahí y logrando mejores oportunidades de trabajo.

¿Porque has elegido el proyecto openSUSE?
Hace mucho tiempo surgió la idea de formar una comunidad de Software libre en el país, yo mismo y otros compañeros de la universidad, una comunidad a nivel de todo el país, sin embargo ya existían algunos grupos, pero no existía una para openSUSE, eramos personas que estábamos usando distribuciones como Mandrake, RedHat, Conectiva y Suse. De ahí nació la idea de entrarle de lleno a openSUSE.

¿Porque?
Al probar de lleno openSUSE, vimos que tenia todas aquellas características que tenían otras distribuciones de Linux, sin embargo los agregados gráficos y su forma le daban algo más agradable y potente para usarla, tanto que podía ser facilmente usada por cualquier persona con poco conocimiento o mucho. Estas características nos emocionaron a seguirla probando y buscar los medios para ayudar a otros que estaban interesados en usar openSUSE.

¿En qué están más interesados los usuarios que se acercan a vuestro stand? ¿Cuales suelen ser las consultas más usuales que os hace?
Los usuarios desean saber todo a la vez, pero se interesan en saber si podrán hacer las mismas cosas en Linux, que tienen en Windows. Preguntan donde pueden consultar sus problemas que tengan en Linux, cómo pueden mantener openSUSE y su sistema actual Windows, que distribución deben usar. Algunos se interesan mucho, que buscan apoyo y solicitud para brindar capacitaciones en colegios y empresas.

¿Que echáis en falta o qué mejoraríais?
Seria muy interesante contar con mas apoyo, pero comprendo que las personas ocupan su tiempo libre para esto, y no es obligatorio. Algunas cosas salen mal a veces en los eventos, corregirlas para los próximos seria mucho mejor.

It’s a way to know the GREAT work that they make in their countries spreading the word of free software in general and openSUSE in particular. Here you have the answers, today from El Salvador with Cheperobert.

How long have you been organizing FLISOL in your city?
The first event where participate actively was in 2007 and was held at the University where I studied. This first event meant a lot, because it was a door for many users to get in the Free Software world, also many were interested in collaborating in the organization of future events.

How many people will you work to organize and what resources you count?
The number of people has changed a lot, on certain occasions we have created working committees and others we have to make everything. Many times is difficult to organize due personal issues of each person, however have always pulled through.

Commissions have made generally with 3 people for each activity, they can be:

• Marketing Commission
• Llogistics Commission of the event
• Materials Commission (DVD’s, CD’s, shirts, hats, key chains, etc.)

As I mentioned before, sometimes 4 or 5 people have to do all the work

The resources which we have, are mainly a list of users (in our community, we have our list). Sometimes we posted on a openSUSE’s wiki, the progress of work. About marketing, peers in their blog’s and friendly communities publish information about event.

At the venue where the event will take place, the authorities of the town, help us report the event and request the appropriate permissions so that this is done in right time. All this work means a lot of work sending many emails of discussion and meetings.

How is a day in the event? What activities do you carry?
Schedules and important things are already in place by the organization, so that the event is about developing according to this. Later in a not so formal way lead by talks Free software and workshops, ending at closing, gift promotions and software, among other things.

The main activities are: Talks and presentations by volunteers, with specific topics proposed by them. (everything has to be about free software) Software Installation Workshops, competition among participants, through online games. Discussions among participants, burning DVD’s and CD and distribution of free software There’s time to lunch, and selling T-shirts, stickers, etc.

What have organized for this year? Any surprise?
For this year, FLISOL will take place at one of the most important university of the country, and the free software community of this university will take care of everything. The openSUSE community of El Salvador we will have a booth, promoting the distro, spreading the openSUSE project, sharing the new release 12.3 and many things more. Many of us will give talks, so Geeko will be present in many acts!

The main surprise will be that this year we will have some banners given by openSUSE, so this way we can show better our booth

The event this year is bigger than in other cases, due this year will be the first year that we will see many others communities across the country gathered at an event (Debian’s community, Ubuntu’s community, Fedora, openSUSE, etc)

What about the reception from users?There is growing interest in recent years?
That’s the best side of this, the users have a great curiosity and they want to learn, and to know about all the new things that we show. They have many questions, they compare between how they make some things with their actually systems and how they will do the same things with the new free systems.

They are very happy because in anywhere nobody gives them a DVD or CD with a full operative system, get escited and thanks a lot the support and the help in soving their problems.

Some of them, later will continue and will convert in great free software activist and help others. And is too a big job opportunity

Why have you chosen the openSUSE project?
Long time ago the idea forming a free software community in our country, by myself and other colleagues from the university. There were a few groups, but there wasn’t one for openSUSE, we were people who were using distributions like Mandrake, RedHat, Conectiva and Suse. And we had the idea for get involve closely.

Why? When we test openSUSE, we saw that had all those characteristics that had other Linux’s distributions, however the graphics and other characteristics gave something more pleasant and powerful to use, so it could be used by anyone with little knowledge or a lot. These features were thrilled to follow testing and seek ways to help others who were interested in using openSUSE.

What are people most interested in approaching your stand? What are usually the most common queries that makes you?
The users want to know everything, but are interested in knowing whether they can do the same things in Linux, they do in Windows. They ask where they can ask when they have some problems about Linux, how they can continue mantain openSUSE and the system that they actually use, or want to know what distro they must to choose. Some of them are very interesting and want to know how to teach that in schools or bussiness.

What missing or what will improve?
It would be very interesting to have more support, but I understand that people spend their free time for this, and there’s not mandatory. Some things go wrong sometimes in events, we must improve, and the next time would be much better.
